4 Ways To Reuse The Clothes In Your Closet

Here’s a fun, free way I love to shop. I call it “closet shopping”. Before purchasing new clothes for the season, I see how I can reuse the existing clothes in my closet.

You can do this too. Your wallet will love you, and since you won’t need to purchase as many new pieces, you can invest the savings on fewer, higher quality pieces when you do shop. Here are four ways to reuse the existing clothes in your closet:

1. Recombine Colors – You can instantly update your style by switching how you combine colors. Start with a jumping off point for inspiration like YouLookFab did with this printed DVF top.

Then head to your closet and see what you have in those colors. Here YouLookFab remixed the colors from the DVF shirt as shown above.

When creating spring and summer looks, try  infusing white and nude instead of black. It works like a charm.

A few other ideas for reusing the pieces in your closet:

2. Turn a dress into a skirt – Especially if the dress has a lot of pattern. Pieces with a lot pattern sometimes work better when there is less of it. Visit your tailor for fine tuning. source

3. Transform dress pants into shorts – Perhaps have them cuffed. Long dress shorts are on point right now. Wear your dress shorts with pumps and a blazer to work, if you work in a creative work environment. Or wear them on the weekend.

4. Define your waist – Pair a belt with a flowy top and leggings on the weekend, or a fitted top and a pencil skirt for work. Belts are an easy way to update your look. Try a kimono style belt for the most updated belt look – but really any belt that suits your personal style and body type will work well to define your waist. And defining your waist is the goal!

What ways have you found to reuse the pieces in your closet?

Happy closet shopping!

xo,

Jamie
