My Minimalist Inspired Tiny Washington, DC Closet Clear

Oh my! Us stylists can have closet issues too.

Below is my closet before. Quite the mess. This year, I spent so much of my free time helping clients with their wardrobes that I had little time left for my own.

One thing about living in Washington, DC – generally, closet space is minimal. To add to the clutter problem, my closets doubled as storage space too. Continue Reading →

Brock+Collection+Fall+2017+BrCv-CVl3s3l

Golden leaves fall steadily. There is a Hornbeam tree above me, and its little leaves decorate my silver patio table along Georgetown waterfront.

It’s mid-september, and plenty of passersby are wearing white.

White for 2017 is a big trend in both fashion and interior design, pointing to a desire for simplicity and minimalism in our chaotic, uncertain world. And you can absolutely continue wearing your favorite white fashions during the cooler months.

Here are five ways for women in leadership to take white into fall:

1. Add a vibrant color top to white trousers– Take it from Vogue – all white everything can get boring. So add a vibrant color blouse to a pair of crisp white pants at the office. Or try a fall hued statement blazer paired with your crisp white trousers. Continue Reading →

11 Ways To Look Fabulous In A Pleated Skirt

Pleated skirts look amazing, both stylsih and ladylike, when worn well. Yet, it can be difficult to know how to wear a pleated skirt and, let’s face it, not look bulky through the hips.

The truth is, most body types can wear a pleated skirt, with the exception of triangle body types (a.k.a. pear shaped). Triangle body types, try to avoid pleated skirts because pleats add volume to your lower half.

Hourglass body types, you look best in fitted shapes, so pleated skirts aren’t the go-to shape for you. If you are an hourglass body type and really love pleated skirts, try one of the options below that do not include a jacket. This will keep your look streamlined.

A pleated skirt can be worn equally well with or without a jacket since the skirt stands on its own. However, adding a jacket polishes your look while camouflaging any extra around your tummy.  For example, a pleated skirt and fitted short blazer work well for round body types – it gives you the illusion of curves through the middle.

1. With a short blazer – If you opt for a crew neckline like Mary Orton does here,  try wearing a long necklace – it  elongates your look.
