Flattering Coats For Your Shape

As the mercury drops, your winter coat is your single most viewed wardrobe item. If your coat doesn’t fit your shape, you tend to look frumpy instead of polished as you move in and out of the office, and to and from business engagements.

In the interest of creating a fabulous sartorial experience for all – I found flattering coats for every shape.

Click on any coat to discover more, or use these tips as a guide when you search for the perfect winter coat.

Boyish:

If you have a narrow  frame, a long tailored jacket will flatter you. Belt your coat to create additional curves. Use the belt the coat comes with, or try adding your own for professional sartorial flair.

Look for military inspired detailing such as epaulettes, a double row of buttons, or peplum to enhance to add drama and curves:

Ambitious TGI Friday Find

*Ambitious Finds  items hunted to help you feel haughter, happier, and more confident in the boardroom and out.

Dressing up all week is great for getting in the zone, but when casual Friday comes around I love to relax a little and dress up my jeans.

Today I found this beautiful purple Classiques Entier tweed blazer inspired the J.Crew purple tweed blazer look I posted on Instagram.

Classiques Entier combines a striking  blend of quality and style without the high price points of other quality workwear brands. For a polished powerful casual Friday look, coordinate your tweed jacket with a tie blouse in white, light blue, or the spicy yellow that is so popular this fall.

How To Wear Fall’s Dusty Pink And Yellow Trend At Work

At first blush, you may think it would be hard to pull off fall’s dusty pink and yellow trend at work.

But it’s a cinch.

And according to Empower Yourself With The Psycholgy Of Color, yellow stimulates your mental faculties; it activates your left or analytical brain. This color is great choice to wear on a day you have a planning meeting.

Muted colors like dusty rose are more conservative, therefore more acceptable at work than some of the electric color we saw on the runway. Wearing the two together creates a fresh, interesting look your colleagues will either envy or admire. Either way you will be noticed when you wear pink and yellow together:

These colors may read spring to you – fair enough.  The trick is to choose fabrics and clothing items that read fall- like turtlenecks and coats, and fabrics like velvet or wool. Continue Reading →

17 New Ways To Wear A Silk Scarf to Work This Fall

Silk scarves are everything this season. This is wonderful news for work style.

Why? Because scarves look stylishly elegant at the office.

Convey you are forward thinking by adding a modern twist to scarf tying. Fashion forward prints add edge to your classic look. Conversely, if  you have a more casual look you want to elevate – just add a scarf. Taking an edgier look and adding a scarf creates a  more ‘modern classic’ style.

Wound around your neck once and tied.

TGI Friday Find

Rebecca Minkoff ‘Aiden’ Mule. This butterscotch color is gorgeous and the reviews are good – 4.5 stars.  Wear to work for casual Friday and on the weekend for a fresh take on the basic bootie. This Rebecca Minkoff mule also comes in black, but I like it in this unusual, yet neutral hue. Mules pair well with pants, jeans, and even dresses and skirts.

Readers, would you wear a mule like this to work on casual Friday?

Friday’s “To Die” Find

_12828530

TD, I discovered, stands for “to die”. Used when something is so amazing you’re worried you just might die.

And the color of this icey blue tissue weight scarf is TD! The mornings now have a little chill. The evenings too. Not much – barely enough for a sweater.

Which makes sense – yesterday marked the fall equinox, it’s a perfect time to find a cool scarf like this Nordstrom brand one I found. It’s a beautiful hue which happens to be one fall’s pantone colors. Pair with red, darker blue, and even yellow. Or be safe and wake up a simple neutral palette.

For ideas to tie your scarf click here.

xo,

Jamie

P.S.  Readers, have you discovered any fun new acronyms lately?
