17 New Ways To Wear A Silk Scarf to Work This Fall

Silk scarves are everything this season. This is wonderful news for work style.

Why? Because scarves look stylishly elegant at the office.

Convey you are forward thinking by adding a modern twist to scarf tying. Fashion forward prints add edge to your classic look. Conversely, if  you have a more casual look you want to elevate – just add a scarf. Taking an edgier look and adding a scarf creates a  more ‘modern classic’ style.

Wound around your neck once and tied.

Friday’s “To Die” Find

_12828530

TD, I discovered, stands for “to die”. Used when something is so amazing you’re worried you just might die.

And the color of this icey blue tissue weight scarf is TD! The mornings now have a little chill. The evenings too. Not much – barely enough for a sweater.

Which makes sense – yesterday marked the fall equinox, it’s a perfect time to find a cool scarf like this Nordstrom brand one I found. It’s a beautiful hue which happens to be one fall’s pantone colors. Pair with red, darker blue, and even yellow. Or be safe and wake up a simple neutral palette.

Are Open Toe Shoes Appropriate For Work In The Summer?

Are open toe shoes appropriate for work in the summer?

Each office is different, but if you work in DC your office is likely conservative.

Local DC author and style expert, Lauren Rothmanshared her rule of thumb at a recent work style seminar I attended at Betsy Fisheras long as one end of your shoe is closed (either the front or the back) the shoe is office appropriate.

So, an open toe slingback is not appropriate. But a closed toe slingback or an open toe pump is:

Closed back and open toe = work appropriate : Try pairing an ankle strap shoe like this with A-line dresses, pencil skirts, and culottes. Continue Reading →

3 Amazingly Versatile Little White Work Dresses

“Everything you want is just outside your comfort zone”, says Robert Allen.

These are words to live by. So I’ve made some changes.

But it’s only been a week, and I already miss styling at Nordstrom Tysons Corner! I’m missing all the cool: the people, the products, the service.  And the customers were the highlight- so much fun to play with!

Then the aha moment came.

I can be part of the Nordstrom family here too.  So, please come into my dressing room.

Let’s talk about little white dresses.

Because everyone needs a little white dress for summer! You can take yours to work, weekend, and even on vacation. So many possibilities! Here are three I love:

1. Fit And Flare –  This Theory dress can easily be worn to the office with a blazer, or with a  jean jacket for casual Friday and weekend.

Dress it up with wedges and pumps or dress it down with sandals, elevated sneakers, or even classy flip flops. Continue Reading →

How To Wear 2016 Pantone Colors To Work

For the first time Pantone chose two pantone colors of the year – rose quartz and serenity.

Rose quartz is a gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure, and  serenity is weightless and airy like the blue sky, evoking feelings of  breathing space and relaxation even in turbulent times.

They also happily remind me of my favorite spring sighting – pink cherry blossoms against a blue sky:

Rose quartz and serenity  are great choices for enhancing the mood on specific professional occasions.

For example, rose quartz  is a good color to try on a day when you are presenting on a human resource topic. And wearing serenity blue to a meeting regarding upcoming changes might encourage a sense of calm and feelings of space for those changes.

Here are some fabulous rose quartz and serenity blue looks for inspiration:
