My Nordstrom editorial-  Makeup by Jamore Harris

This layered leg feature is a collaboration I got to do with Nordstrom for the Nordstrom October 2015 Catalog . The experience was so much fun – I am truly humbled and thankful for the amazing opportunity.

Here are a few hosiery tips specifically for career women who want to try this layered leg trend. Why? So you can jump in on the layered leg trend while staying boss-worthy, of course!

Leg Warmers – Leg warmers are perfect to keep your legs warm on the way to and from work on cold days. Especially if you ride the metro. You may even feel inspired to break out some Flashdance moves when no one is looking!

Winter Coat Edit – Flattering Fits For 5 Body Types

Your winter coat is the shining star of your cool weather wardrobe. People see you in your winter coat everyday as you make your way through your morning routine, to and from the office, and after hours heading in and out of desk-to-dinner functions.

So, on that note, how’s your winter coat?

Not loving? Now is the time to take action! Temperatures are dropping  quickly over the next few weeks. To help you look amazing, here is your guide to winter coat trends suitable for women in leadership,  broken down by body type:

Busty–  if you have “girls” as I like to say – opt for lady-like, super-tailored coats that are nipped in at the waist.

Boyish: If you have a small chest, look for fitted shapes that emphasize a waist and have an exaggerated collar to give added volume up top. This flounce coat does the job.

4 Smart Hosiery Styles For Work – And Where To Find Them

Now that the weather is cooler, hose is the perfect answer for stylish warmth at work. True, some women wear hose year-round for modesty, even though dress codes no longer require it.

And others simply like perfect looking legs so they wear nude hose year round to work and/or for presentations.

You know what else? Hose certainly comes to the rescue when you missed a leg wax as well! (Not that this has ever happened to me…just speculating. Really!)

No matter what your reason, here are four smart hose options I like for women in leadership:

Grid Pattern Graphic Tights – This option adds style and edge to any dress or skirt ensemble. Keep the rest of your look classy and clean. to maintain a professional air of authority. You can find similar grid tights here, and a smaller grid option here.

One Marriott VP’s Secret To Staying Professional: Her Office-bag

VP Roz Winegrad in the dining room of her Bethesda home, showing us her new office-bag

Roz Winegrad decided she’d had enough of schlepping. That’s how the office-bag was born.

First, let me share this with you:

Roz negotiated her way at  Marriott from Manager in Training and Assistant Food Production Manager in 1985, to the senior executive suite. Truly ambitious when you work for the world’s largest Fortune 500 hotel chain, don’t you think?

Today, as Marriott International’s VP Owner and Franchise Services, Initiatives, Communication and Business Support, Roz Winegrad needs to maintain a professional, organized image while moving from meeting to meeting throughout her day.

That’s where the office-bag comes in.

Because let’s face it – women’s wear (work or play) does not have as many usable pockets as men’s wear.

I caught  up with Roz to get the low-down on her new office-bag:

A: What made you decide to carry an office-bag? Continue Reading →

3 Fall 2015 Trends To Wear To Work Now

 W
elcome back! How was your summer? I’m grateful for the  rejuvenating time I spent soaking in the beauty of Cape Cod with friends and family.  I also enjoyed a little hiking. Did you like the tree climbing picture I posted on Facebook?

Have you noticed all the dry leaves falling?

I guess that means it’s time to focus on work again.

One of my favorite things about fall is the ability to layer. Layering means more fun work style options. But we are not  there yet – the days are still hot and summery. Here are three ideas, as seen in on elle.com, that you can use to transition your work wardrobe from summer to fall while the weather is still warm:

1. High Waisted Pants – The key to wearing high waisted pants is to ensure the perfect fit. Too small, and high waisted pants are unflattering: Too big, and high waisted pants look frumpy. Continue Reading →

5 White-Hot Summer Work Wardrobe Favorites

It’s not too late. Still want to invest in a couple great summer work pieces, but don’t know where to start?

Start with white.

White quintessentially spells summer, and is entirely on point for Summer 2015. If you are out to invest in simply one piece or two – try one of these five white summer work wardrobe favorites:

Crisp White Short Sleeved Shirt – Also those sandals; they are amazing! But I digress – back to the shirt. You  can tuck your short sleeved white shirt into any pencil skirt, midi skirt, and all your work pants. A crisp white shirt can also dress up your jeans on casual Friday, and even shorts on the weekend.

Looser Dress Codes Tighter Pants

“Are these pants too tight?” That is what my client- a millennial woman in leadership- asked me the other day.

We were working on her closet. She was trying on a pair of fitted ankle pants she loved to wear.  Her conservative company is forward thinking. They are embracing millennial ideas into their historically conservative company, in order to connect with younger consumers.

It got me thinking.

One important thing for millennials is style, and self expression through style. But what are the new professional boundaries? How tight can your pants be and still be  acceptable at work for a woman in leadership?

I looked into it:

In Corporette‘s blog post The Perfect Pants Fit, Kat suggests being able to pinch at least an inch of fabric at your thigh.  For that reason, Kat also believes skinny jeans are not appropriate for the office. Corporette is a style blog and forum largely for lawyers, so their offices are typically ultra conservative.

5 Amazing Spring 2015 Handbags For Women in Leadership

Having a great handbag can make your day.

But it has to be practical and functional when you are a woman in leadership.

It has to be easily accessible, fit a small laptop or iPad, perhaps a file or two, and your other daily essentials. I did a little research and here are my five favorite WIL- friendly Spring 2015 handbags.

Balenciaga came out with a work tote size of this mini tote.  What beautiful yet simple detailing.  I visualize stopping by a big client’s home for an afternoon meeting by the pool.

This amazing picture was taken by Chriselle Lim who has a style blog The Chriselle Factor. I have always admired her artistic blogging style and work ethic. She just had a baby, and this was her “push present” to herself. Great choice!
