“Where are you going? ”
That is the most important question to ask yourself before you shop this fall. Before you shop anytime, really.
Once you have a clear idea where you are going with your life’s work, you can make educated decisions about what wardrobe items to invest in this season.
Let’s say your goal is to head up your department within a year, and secure a seat on the board in five years. You have a choice between purchasing two moderately priced trendy new blazers, or one modern, statement investment piece. It will be easy to consider that a quality statement piece will increase your confidence in key meetings along the way, and help you stand out from others vying for the same position.
Or you might see a cardigan you love in the perfect color for you, but your basic power jackets are getting old or ill-fitting. Armed with directional clarity, you’ll know to prioritize replacing your basic power jackets and save buying another cardigan for later. (Much as you love your cozy cardigans)
So this fall, before you jump into shopping – start by visualizing your destination. Picture how you want your closet to look. Your life to look. Think of what your long term and short term personal goals are.
Where are you going? This simple question helps you prioritize your shopping.
My wish for you is that you feel authentic, feminine and powerful each day of your journey – both at work and in your personal life.
